Home/The Ice Age Came? And I Just Got Married?!/ch 108

Chapter 108.

---

Charlotte stood on the watchtower, binoculars in hand.

Today, too, Logan, Clare, and Leon were annihilating another squad.

No—could that even be called a battle?

Clare and Leon were formidable fighters, but Logan's combat power was simply overwhelming.

So—did his memories come back or not?

Only Marcus had managed to have a proper conversation with Logan since his return—and even he couldn't say for sure.

Whether he had his memories or not, one thing was clear: without Eve, Logan was uncontrollable.

Even without memories, why was he so desperate without her?

He didn't seem tired—no, he seemed unaware that he was tired.

Even if he annihilated every enemy in his path, it was unclear whether that rampage would ever subside.

Only Eve could stop him.

Eve needs to come back soon.

She didn't imagine Eve being hurt or in danger—she seemed invincible, always safe.

This village is truly remarkable, though.

The number of soldiers gathered in the forest had visibly decreased—and even those remaining seemed to be considering retreat.

It was clear they couldn't take Acorn Village.

Even if they approached, anyone with hostile intent was magically repelled.

And if they did get close, Logan wiped them out immediately.

Charlotte lowered her binoculars, then raised them again.

"...Huh?"

At the edge of the forest, the soldiers began pulling back—one by one.

It wasn't a rout.

They were reorganizing in orderly formation, following someone's command.

"Are they retreating?"

Just then, something massive stirred deep in the forest.

The trees shook in succession, and piled snow tumbled down.

Thump.

Thump.

Heavy vibrations reached the watchtower.

"What is that?"

Charlotte quickly adjusted her binoculars' focus.

But the dense coniferous forest blocked her view.

One thing was certain—it wasn't human movement.

Oh no—did snow monsters join the fight now?

Just when things couldn't get worse.

Thanks to the village's enchantment, people with hostile intent couldn't enter—that much was good.

But the problem was that the villagers couldn't easily go outside either.

For a week, they hadn't been able to hunt or fish, nor gather firewood.

They couldn't hold out much longer like this.

Eve, we desperately need you.

---

I turned around.

"Eve—what's wrong?"

Julian asked. I shrugged.

"Nothing—I just felt like someone was calling me..."

I trailed off and changed the subject.

"So—what's the plan?"

Nathan relayed Marcus's instructions—seeking help from Haywood, Orange Market, Tony's Faction, and Sunhaven.

"Why isn't Norton included?"

"Norton is the Crown Prince's territory."

"So what?"

Nathan looked troubled. Aiden must have been difficult to deal with.

"Norton should help too—we're allies."

At my firm reply, Nathan nodded reluctantly.

The White Veil army wouldn't be able to take Acorn Village anyway—it was special.

So we don't really need all this help.

I turned to Julian.

"Brother—do you know anything about White Veil's forces?"

He shrugged.

"Let me calculate."

We had left Tony's Faction and were heading toward Haywood's camp.

"We're heading straight to Rosebrook to send reinforcements."

Tony's reliable answer came—now we needed Haywood's help.

Sunhaven and Orange Market were too far; sending word would take time. Norton was enough for additional reinforcements.

"White Veil's base is in the southeast of Grandon."

At Julian's answer, I recalled the locations of Avrid and Rosebrook. Avrid was luckily in the central region—closer to the east than the west.

"Graham said White Veil didn't expect the ice age either—their forces in Norsellan were wiped out."

"Ah—that's probably true. They believed they could control the climate."

"So this disaster wasn't White Veil's doing?"

"Most likely not."

At Julian's answer, I rested my chin in thought. Then was the Heart of Frost really the cause?

"Maybe it's divine punishment."

"Divine punishment?"

"Only God can control the climate—and White Veil challenged that authority."

"I don't believe in God."

At my answer, Julian shook his head and showed me the priest's robe under his coat.

"Saying that in front of someone wearing a priest's robe..."

"You're not a priest—you're a researcher. Why are you even wearing that?"

At my question, Julian clasped his hands in prayer.

"The Heart of Frost didn't seem to like it, so I wore it."

"Why would the Heart of Frost dislike a priest's robe?"

"More precisely, it doesn't like 'holy' energy—ancient texts say mages and clergy were at odds."

Ah?

Hearing that, I recalled the incident at Acorn Village's chapel.

When I'd held the crucifix, it burned like fire—I'd seriously wondered if I'd become a demon.

"Your words seem credible, brother."

"Not just credible—it's in ancient texts."

"Now's not the time for this."

Nathan cut us off—we'd arrived at Haywood's camp.

They had settled in Avrid's Royal Central Station.

Once a grand hub connecting the capital to surrounding cities, it had survived the avalanche with nearly half its structure intact.

The glass roof was shattered in places, and the stopped clock tower pointed just before midnight.

In the plaza, snow-buried carriages and carts were arranged like barricades.

Long trains sat idle on the tracks, their windows patched with cloth and wood—survivors seemed to be living inside.

Faint lights flickered through them.

But the problem was that Haywood was also under siege—by snow monsters.

Dozens of snow monsters pounded the barricades in the plaza, and white shapes kept crawling up from the eastern platforms.

The worst was the western tunnel—from the darkness, snow monsters poured out in lines.

[Damn—we're surrounded.]

[There's reinforcements outside?]

[What—a skinny woman, a priest, and another skinny guy? How will they help?]

[Who are you calling a skinny woman?! She's worth more than ten of you!]

[What? Chief—are you serious?]

[Shut up, you bastards who weren't at Lowell Amusement Park.]

I could hear their conversation from within range—likely because they had Winterstones.

I was used to being dismissed by now.

I loaded the rifle I'd borrowed from Tony's Faction.

"Eve—even with your hunting skills, this looks tough."

Only I could hear their voices.

And Julian still didn't know my full combat potential.

He'd seen me use the Silverstone, Redstone, and Goldstone—but never in a real fight.

To be honest, I'm a bit less confident without Logan.

Still, it wasn't impossible. Haywood's fighters were formidable.

I trusted their strength.

I looked at the central station and tilted my head.

Ice erupted from the ground, forming defensive walls to block the snow monsters.

While everyone stared in amazement, I applied the ice spear technique I'd used against the Snow Titan.

In an instant, I created dozens of thin, short ice spears and rained them down from above.

The spears struck the snow monsters in rapid succession. I didn't miss the chance—I fired shot after shot.

Julian was stunned beside me, but there was no time to explain.

Gritting my teeth, I resolved to finish this as quickly as possible.
