Home/The Ice Age Came? And I Just Got Married?!/ch 90

Chapter 90.

That evening, Eve House.

I sat in the study Logan had set up for me, head in my hands.

The council was a problem—and so was Logan's lost memory and the black mana stone he'd absorbed.

Then I suddenly remembered Julian's research journal I'd brought from the naval base.

I'd been too caught up in events to read it properly—now seemed like the right time.

Most of it was filled with incomprehensible terms and formulas—I skimmed past them.

I'm also curious how Julian learned about the Heart of Frost.

Then I found a section about snow monsters.

[Rosebrook Naval Base Top Secret Research Record]

Lead Researcher: Julian Wesley Everhart

Subject: Unidentified Lifeform—Code Name 'Snow Monster'

This was it.

I fixed the page and read carefully.

[Record 1.

A massive lifeform was discovered beneath the 17th Ice Wall in the northern glacial zone.

At the time of discovery, the subject was completely sealed inside an ice layer approximately 30 meters thick.

Geological surveys estimated it had been frozen for at least 3,000 years.

Cross-referencing with ancient texts, the subject is highly likely to be a 'Snow Monster.'

It is believed to have been artificially created by ancient mages and sealed deep underground for unknown reasons.

More such specimens are presumed to exist, though their locations remain unknown.

So far, it is assumed they are widely distributed.]

[Record 5.

Successfully extracted the heart.

The snow monster's heart is entirely different from a human's.

At its center was an unknown black crystal.

A mineral?

No.

Not organic tissue either.

It was pulsating.]

[Record 12.

Discovered records of a mana stone called the 'Heart of Frost' in forbidden ancient texts.

According to the texts, ancient mages created snow monsters in the process of forging the Heart of Frost.

In other words, the snow monsters' hearts are likely subordinate mana stones derived from the Heart of Frost.

I wanted to read more, but it was taken by those bastards—the White Veil.]

A subordinate mana stone derived from the Heart of Frost.

That explained why Logan was being "tamed" by my words—I'd absorbed fragments of the Heart of Frost, while he'd absorbed a subordinate stone.

Could this also be connected to Logan's regressions and corruption every time I die?

It seemed like a leap—but somehow, it kept pointing in that direction.

And Julian's final line was noteworthy:

"Those bastards—the White Veil."

That clearly referred to White Veil.

The problem was that most of the journal was torn, so I couldn't find much else.

Why did White Veil take the texts?

Since Julian's journal was left behind, they probably didn't consider it important—maybe because much of it was destroyed.

They must have left the snow monster records because they didn't matter.

I decided to read what remained.

[Record 18.

While studying the black subordinate mana stones extracted from snow monster hearts, a peculiar case was observed.

One test subject who had long-term exposure to the Heart of Frost showed abnormal symptoms after contact with a black subordinate mana stone.

Initially, there was no change.

But over time, portions of his memory began to fade.

Interestingly, the memory loss was not random.

The first things forgotten were 'the person he cherished most and the memories most precious to him.'

Because precious memories are more special than ordinary ones, losing them effectively erased his 'self.'

In other words—

The black subordinate mana stone was erasing the humanity of those exposed to the Heart of Frost.]

I found it.

Now I knew why Logan lost his memory—but how was I supposed to restore it?

[Record 20.

However, the black subordinate mana stones are not entirely useless.

If absorbed by the Heart of Frost, the stones can amplify its power.]

Instead of absorbing the mana stones from snow monster hearts, it would be better to feed them to the Heart of Frost.

I was wondering how to extract something already absorbed—and that part was torn.

Maybe I needed to find the Heart of Frost first.

Just then—

Knock, knock.

Someone knocked on the study door.

"Eve—it's me."

Logan's voice. He now called me by name properly—it felt strange.

Like we were building a relationship from scratch again.

It almost felt like returning to the academy days.

"Come in."

Click.

Logan entered—wearing the acorn sweater. Come to think of it, I'd promised to knit him a new one.

"Isn't that uncomfortable?"

"It's warm—and the wool feels nice."

He smoothed down the sweater.

"I knit that for you."

He looked surprised.

His expression grew odd as he stared at the sweater, then he awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck and approached me.

"Thank you."

"You already thanked me before."

"I don't remember—so I'll say it again."

I smiled.

"Okay."

The tension eased a little.

Logan pulled up a chair and sat across from me.

"I was wondering if you'd found any clues about restoring my memory."

He'd apparently gotten a rough summary from Marcus about everything that had happened with me.

I couldn't understand how the story could continue with only me erased.

I showed him the notebook I was holding.

"I was just looking at this for reference."

"A research journal? From your brother?"

"Do you remember my brother? Or did Senior Rutland tell you?"

"No—it says 'Everhart' here."

Ah—right.

I nodded and looked up—only to find Logan's face unexpectedly close.

He'd leaned over the desk toward me.

He looked down at the journal, then sensed my gaze and looked up.

A breathless silence followed. Logan's crimson eyes watched me, tilting slightly.

His eyes traced my face slowly.

Just a gaze.

So why was I so tense?

I bit my lower lip. His gaze lingered there.

"Your face really is my type."

He reached out and brushed my lip with his thumb.

"Enough to make me want to kiss you."

?!

Startled, I leaned back.

"Sorry—did that bother you?"

Thump-thump— My heart was racing again.

I calmed it and shook my head.

"...No—you're Logan, my husband—why would it bother me?"

Logan's eyebrow twitched. He straightened up.

Trying not to show my agitation, I answered as calmly as I could.

"But I don't want my first kiss to be like this."

"Wait—what? First kiss?"

At Logan's startled voice, I looked up in surprise.

"We're married."

"Huh? We are."

"Then we've never even kissed—and you hugged me?"

"Wh-What are you talking about? Hugged...!"

"Oh my. We never touched."

Logan pressed his lips together, looking stunned.

Come to think of it—he probably doesn't remember the regressions either. Maybe that was also a precious memory tied to me.

"Never mind—just sit down and read the journal."

The moment I spoke, Logan dropped into his seat.

Again—my words force his actions.

Subordinate mana stone, huh...

If only I could force his memories back too—but that wasn't possible.
