Home/My Youngest Keeps Bringing Me Male Leads/ch 58

Chapter 58

Seeing him struggling even to breathe, Amy tugged at his clothes to calm him down.

"Rapitor, are you okay?"

"Ah, that's not the point—don't you think we need better security here? How could the mage hide something like this with such a flimsy-looking device...!"

Hadn't he just been marveling at how there could be a vault in such a place?

"At any rate, I'm glad there's someone who knows its value. I wouldn't have known."

"Of course not! Only we can handle this! Mages can't, giants can't either! We'd be lucky if they didn't just break it!"

Finally grabbing both of Agnes's hands and holding them tightly, Rapitor spoke as if clinging to her desperately.

"Let's start right away! Tell me anything!"

In other words, it was like encountering a legendary mineral whose very existence was unknown.

Agnes glanced down at Amy beside her.

Amy just giggled with an innocent face.

'Did she know that was in the dragon's lair?'

The dragon itself was a legendary being.

Yet six-year-old Amy had found it, and Rupert and Cesenor had joined forces to defeat it.

'It's all thanks to Amy.'

Even knowing it wasn't necessarily a blessing, she envied the child's ability.

Agnes sincerely wished she had an ability too.

'If I could, I'd want to be able to read any secret.'

Then she could uncover the mysteries of the World Tree and what others were hiding.

At least she wouldn't feel as anxious or frustrated as she did now.

With Rapitor's help, things were about to get very busy.

'First, I need to send a letter to Elizabeth.'

That might solve both the problem of her siblings, which had been weighing on her mind, and the issue of creating a new source of income for the territory.

Agnes pulled Amy into another hug for no reason.

"Hm?"

Looking at Amy's puzzled face, she whispered again.

"Thank you, Amy."

"Pfft, it's nothing."

Her sister's shy sniffles were so cute that Agnes pressed kisses to her flushed cheeks.

---

After that, Amy spent more time with Rupert.

Because Agnes was busy preparing a new business, going down to the village every day with Ignitan and Rapitor.

But that was fine.

She always came back in the evening to eat together, and they'd play until bedtime and fall asleep side by side.

More than anything, when her sister was away, she could enjoy sweet desserts to her heart's content.

'Though she said only one a day because they're sweet.'

One extra couldn't hurt.

Amy chewed the strawberry tart in her mouth and asked.

"Sister said she was upset?"

"Yes."

According to Rupert, her sister had said she wished she could have abilities like Rupert and Amy.

"It's fine. She'll get them later."

Popping another piece into her mouth, Amy picked up her pen again.

Amy was practicing writing, which her sister had assigned as homework.

She was still clumsy, and ink kept getting on her fingertips.

Looking at her unskilled hands with resentment, Amy wiped her fingertips on the handkerchief on the table.

Then, in a very small voice, she whispered.

"But I hope she doesn't."

"If the eldest young lady also gained abilities, wouldn't she be able to protect herself better?"

"What if she has to go into a Crack like us?"

"Well..."

Rupert smiled wryly.

"That's absolutely not allowed."

"It was hard there, wasn't it?"

"Yes."

"So she can't. Besides, there's another way, but that's really not okay!"

The unique ability of the 'Other Half of the World Tree.'

Like in her dream, even jumping from a high place didn't hurt.

'But the condition for awakening is meeting that bastard.'

Just thinking about it made goosebumps rise on her arms again.

It's fine now, but if she thought about it on a dark night, it was scary enough to make her cry.

Still, if she burrowed into her sister's arms and hugged her tight, she felt better.

'It's okay. Meeting him was in some unknown rural village, not here.'

As she searched her memory, ink dripped from the pen nib in her hand.

"My lady?"

"Oh no!"

She'd been trying to write neatly for once, but the ink had smeared, ruining the paper.

"Hmph."

"She won't scold you for this much."

"But..."

While Rupert wiped the ink that had spread to the table, Amy resumed her interrupted thought.

'Wait, come to think of it, why was my sister in a rural village instead of here?'

The novel definitely started like that.

Agnes, wandering from place to place, staying in a rural village.

There was no mention of her father or mother, nor of Elizabeth or Edmund.

Just that Agnes was the daughter of a viscount.

'Oh no, I didn't think about something this important!'

She desperately searched through her fragmented memories, but no plausible clue came to mind.

'Did our family have problems even before I was born...?'

Otherwise, there was no reason her sister would be in a rural village wearing shabby clothes.

She supposed it was only natural for an angsty R19 novel to lack context, but still.

Amy groaned silently.

'Is it because I'm not nineteen, so they won't show me?'

Above all, she couldn't even remember why it was R19.

She thought there must have been some scary, brutal scenes.

'I feel like sister and the male leads did something. Ugh, system or World Tree or whatever, just tell me properly!'

Her mind could think like an adult, but only six-year-old words came out of her mouth, which was frustrating.

"Ugh, so frustrating."

Hearing her unintentional complaint, Rupert frowned sympathetically.

"Oh dear, would you like to take a walk with me?"

"Yeah, okay!"

"Where would you like to go? How about going to see the eldest young lady?"

"That means going to the village? Let's go!"

Amy excitedly changed clothes and left the mansion.

"It's hot..."

But once she started walking, the sun was too hot.

A week had passed since Amy's return, and they were now entering June.

Even wearing the wide-brimmed hat her sister had bought, it wasn't enough.

Her small six-year-old body couldn't even withstand the heat rising from the dirt road.

Rupert naturally carried her on his back.

Riding on his cool, broad back, Amy remembered the days she'd traveled with him.

It hadn't been that long, yet it already felt distant.

"Wasn't I heavy?"

"Pardon?"

"You carried me around all the time."

"Not at all. I could lift you with one hand."

"Liar."

"I could show you, but it might be dangerous for you, so I'll refrain."

True, she didn't think she could balance on his hand like some kind of stick.

"Rupert, have you been to the village?"

"Yes. Ah, this is your first time, isn't it?"

"Yeah."

Amy's world had always been just the Laverose estate and its surroundings.

So everything she'd seen while traveling the world was fascinating and amazing.

The Magic Tower buried in snow.

The Naofa Forest, densely packed with towering trees.

The Flame Mountains, unrealistically soaring above the dry desert without even a single tree in sight.

And finally, the dark elves' caves filling the island under the blazing sun.

Every time she encountered a new mysterious world, Amy gasped in wonder.

"When I was young, I used to come here often with the eldest young lady. Until I was fifteen, we'd come down to check on the village frequently."

"Really? What did you do there?"

"You saw the pebbles the young lady gave you last time. We'd collect things like that, and play with the village children."

"Really?"

Rupert laughed softly and continued, reminiscing.

"We'd climb trees together, and sometimes we'd play in the stream."

"Sister did that?"

"Yes, she did."

Now her sister was the very picture of an elegant noble lady—it was hard to believe.

"No way, sister wouldn't do that. You did, right?"

"No. It was the opposite."

She could see Rupert smiling over his shoulder.

"Amy, on the other hand, is very well-behaved."

"Ah, I'll tell sister!"

"Please don't. I'll get in trouble."

With Rupert's laughter, they soon arrived at the village.

Water was spraying coolly from the simple fountain in the village square.

Children were playing in the open space beside it.

Only the elderly were present among the adults, and some of them sitting in the shade recognized Rupert and made a fuss.

"No, Rupert?! What happened to you?"

"You've gotten so tall! I heard you fell into a Crack—are you alright now?"

Quietly listening to the conversation between the elders and Rupert, she heard stories mixed in about her sister coming to play as a child.

'So it was true.'

Still, the part about her running around like a tomboy was definitely exaggerated. At most, she must have just followed the village children around.

When she asked about Agnes's whereabouts, they said she was at the blacksmith's with Ignitan and Rapitor.

"The blacksmith is dangerous, so it's best to wait here."

"Why? I'm curious."

"It's where they handle fire, so no. Even Lady Agnes didn't go to the blacksmith when she was young."

"Hmph."

Though she acted disappointed, Amy was more interested in the children who kept glancing at her than in her sister, who was probably doing something troublesome at the blacksmith.

'What is it? They seem curious about me.'
