Home/The F-class hunter wants to get a job again today/ch 6
Chapter 6
Goblins. Low-rank monsters that live in groups.
They were small and individually weak, but unlike other monsters, they attacked in swarms—making them a nuisance to deal with. And nuisance was only true for E-rank Hunters and above. For an F-rank healer like me, even a goblin could easily kill me.
Just like right now.
"Kikikik."
The goblin grinned ominously at me. There was only one in front of me, armed with nothing but a small knife.
I looked up at Seong Si-hyeon, who was sitting on a tree branch, and shouted:
"Si-hyeon! You could handle this!"
He ignored me, picking at his ear. Undeterred, I called again.
"Si-hyeon! Please!"
That's right. That bastard had insisted there was no substitute for real combat and made me start with a low-rank goblin. He'd used his flight skill to quickly climb a tree, lying on a thick branch to observe me.
I'd cried and whined that I absolutely couldn't do it, but he showed no mercy.
"You have to earn that 10 million won monthly salary, don't you?"
He'd sneered and tossed me a short dagger. I caught it, trembling. The goblin, sensing I was weaker, approached me confidently.
"Kikikik."
It swung its knife dangerously again. I could faintly hear other goblins giggling nearby.
Fuck.
What a nasty piece of work. Having been put through the wringer since childhood, he seemed intent on doing the same to me—to mold me into a Hunter through hardship.
"Stay back!"
I swung the knife at the approaching goblin. It only sneered at my clumsy movements, its eyes fixed on my dagger. Just as described in the novel—goblins were greedy creatures.
"Kyek!"
The goblin leaped at me, swinging its knife. Though much smaller than me, it was quick. I hurriedly stepped back to dodge.
But I couldn't avoid it completely—my sleeve was sliced, and a long cut appeared on my forearm. It wasn't deep, but it stung and hurt from the cut.
"Good grief, you can't even dodge that."
I heard Si-hyeon mutter loudly from above, deliberately letting me hear. Damn bastard. He still had no intention of helping.
I swung my knife at the goblin and hastily clicked on my status window.

No wonder Si-hyeon had said "Good grief." I hadn't checked my stats since I had no reason to enter dungeons, but with a combined strength/agility/stamina total of 7, I was practically garbage.
The average for a newly awakened Hunter's strength/agility/stamina total was 15. Fifteen. More than double mine. No wonder an S-rank Hunter like Si-hyeon found it ridiculous.
Of course, I found it ridiculous too. I didn't ask to be reincarnated—and into a garbage Hunter body with a total of 7?!
I barely deflected the goblin's knife. The goblin was less than 130 cm tall, yet even its strength was overwhelming for me.
This trash body! This trash Seong Si-hyeon!
As I cursed my situation while getting cut here and there by the goblin's knife—
Ding—
Ding—
Ding—
Ding—
New notification windows flickered before me. At the same time, a buzzing noise filled my ears, and I heard distant whispers from multiple sources.
[The Tower has discovered the possessor and is amazed.]
[The Tower takes pity on the possessor and bestows an arrangement.]
[Will you accept?]
[Yes / No]
I didn't know what the arrangement was. It could be a blessing—or a curse. But I'd been reincarnated as this trash-tier Hunter, so how much worse could it get?
Besides, Seong Si-hyeon wasn't helping even as I got hurt. He'd probably only intervene right before I died.
There was nothing to hesitate about.
Of course I'll accept.
I deflected the goblin's knife and quickly pressed the status window.
[You have selected 'Yes.']
[A 'skill' utilizing the 'Possessor Trait' has been granted.]
[Congratulations!]
[You have acquired the skill: 'The More You Work, The Stronger You Get!']
<The More You Work, The Stronger You Get! (S-rank)>
<Description: The more companies you work for, and the stronger your employer's abilities, the more your stats will temporarily increase when using this skill. The degree of stat enhancement varies depending on intimacy. This skill also has a warning: If it is revealed that you possess this skill, the possessor will instantly die of a heart attack and cannot return to their original world.>
<Note: Currently employed at 1 company. Employer ability: S-rank.>
As I acquired the skill, a tingling sensation surged through my body, along with a cool, refreshing feeling. I immediately activated the skill.
Ding—
Another notification appeared.
[Your stats have been temporarily altered by the acquired skill.]

<Owned Skills: Healing Skill (F-rank), Buffer Skill (S-rank)>
- Strength: 8
- Agility: 12
- Stamina: 8
- Intelligence: 12
- Mana: 20
A fourfold increase. My strength/agility/stamina total had risen to 28. Just gripping the dagger lightly, I could feel the power in my hands. I swung the knife at the goblin charging toward me.
"Gyaaa!"
I severed its windpipe in one stroke. It had let its guard down, so cutting its throat was easy.
I felt a little hollow—was the world of high-rank Hunters really this simple? No wonder everyone fought so desperately to become stronger.
I spotted the remaining goblins hiding in the grassland. With agility over 10, running felt—to exaggerate—as fast as the wind.
Besides, these goblins had been looking down on me because I'd seemed clumsy earlier. Since they'd lowered their guard, cutting them down was easy.
After dealing with all the nearby goblins, I tossed the bloody dagger at Si-hyeon's feet. He lightly jumped down and smirked.
"You, what skill did you get?"
"Ah, no, nothing!"
"Hmm. Unless you suddenly awakened, there's no way you'd change like that."
The skill's warning was: If discovered, you die. I absolutely, absolutely couldn't get caught. Fortunately, Si-hyeon probably didn't have a Lie Detection skill yet.
I desperately shook my head. It's not what you think—what can I do? He kept staring at me with suspicion.
"You definitely got something. Tell me. We're close enough for that, aren't we?"
Well, if I tell you, I die!
"I really didn't! I was just panicked because it was my first time seeing a goblin. Even newly awakened Hunters can kill goblins, right?"
"...That's true."
He'd been strong from the moment he awakened. I looked him straight in the eye and enunciated carefully to emphasize I'd gained nothing.
"And I kept dodging to figure out its attack patterns. As a beginner, if I don't study the patterns first, I could easily lose."
"That makes sense. You learn fast, huh?"
He looked at me like I was a clever pet. Still a bit suspicious, but also proud—like I picked a good dog.
Relieved to have passed that hurdle, I let out a breath. Then I thought about my skill again.
The more I work, the stronger I get.
To grow stronger, I first needed to increase intimacy with Si-hyeon, and second, get a job at another guild.
But the system definitely mentioned the original world.
It was the first time the system had used words like possessor or original world. That meant—
The transcendent beings in the novel have finally recognized me as a possessor.
Today, for the first time, I'd gotten a clue about returning to my original world.
First, I need to enter the Tower.
To do that, I had to stay close to Si-hyeon. Floors 1 through 10 were beginner zones—even an F-rank healer like me could clear them with enough artifacts. But going higher would be difficult.
I'll cling to Seong Si-hyeon and reach the 100th floor no matter what!
And once I got there, I'd make my wish before he could: Send me back to my original world.
I looked at Si-hyeon's back as he walked ahead and silently made my resolve.
